What causes sagging skin?

As we age, we all experience it: sagging skin. This is noticeable both on the face and the body. Over the years, skin elasticity decreases. This means the skin's natural aging process has begun. The speed of this process depends on several factors: genetics (20%), lifestyle (80%), and external factors. All of this determines how quickly the skin—including on your legs, buttocks, and stomach—sags. There are numerous treatments to firm up the skin, but you can also take some simple steps to prevent this.

WHAT CAUSES SAGGING FACIAL SKIN?

Healthy, firm skin contains collagen and elastin. Collagen is a fiber that strengthens the connective tissue in our skin. Elastin is also a connective tissue, but it ensures that your skin bounces back to its original shape after being stretched or deformed. Another birthday approaching also means: a lower dose of collagen and elastin in your body and, voilá, connective tissue and muscles that become significantly looser. This leads to overall sagging skin, plus the development of wrinkles.
